Motion detection software has been around for a while now, and it's something that I've tried to use at the office before and got frustrated with. Either the software is too sensitive and goes off at the sight of a fly hovering past, or it fails to pick up anything at all.

Although it's far from foolproof, Motion Hunter is one of the best video surveillance apps on the market and comes with a range of decent options that give you complete control over the monitoring of your system. You can choose how much you want to record, set limits on file sizes, add sound alarms and send an email whenever motion is detected.

You can stream live feeds from your webcam as well, meaning you can monitor the situation remotely. If, for instance, you´re at work then you can make sure that no one is interferring with your PC at all times. This is a handy little feature, and one which seems to work well, especially if you have the bandwidth to handle high quality video from your machine.

The software's detection rate is pretty good and in most of the tests we put it through, it picked up motion and didn´t go off randomly when nothing was happening. However, it's still no use if the burglars choose to swipe your computer while they´re looting your home!
